Hayes – Edmond Lee “Popeye” Deshotel, born in Hackberry on October 22, 1938, son of the late Edward and Annie Mae (Moore) Deshotel, passed away on March 17, 2022, at the age of 83. Popeye as he was affectionally known by, retired from the maintenance department at McNeese State University. He enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, and dancing to French music. Family gatherings were always fun when he would make his famous turtle sauce piquante. He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Joseph “Milo” Deshotel, Harry Deshotel, James “Jimmy” Deshotel, Sr., and Helen Guidry. Popeye is survived by his daughters, Elgina Manuel (Stephen), Geneva Guillory (Kevin), and Rhonda Suire (Joseph); grandchildren, Amberlyn Fontenot, Matthew & Colby Suire, Kyndra & Kory Manuel; 4 great-grandsons, numerous nieces, and nephews. He is also survived by his siblings, John Deshotel, Paul “Red” Deshotel, Sr., Kenneth “KO” Moore, and Beulah Berry. A Mass of Christian burial will be in St. John Vianney of Bell City on Monday, March 21, 2022, at 11 a.m. Rev. John Payne, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Hayes Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Visitation begins Sunday in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. and will resume in the funeral home on Monday from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
