Lelia Simon "Teeya" Leonard

Bell City –Lelia Simon Leonard, 92, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2015 surrounded by her family. “Teeya” was born in Kaplan on November 26, 1922 and was raised by the late Mr. and Mrs. Delma Hargrave. She attended St. John the Evangelist and St. John Vianney and was a member of the St. John Vianney Altar Society. On November 6, 1937 she married the late Avery “Chump” Leonard, Sr. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, dominos and cooking, but her greatest love was God and family. She is survived by her children, Avery “Junior” Leonard, Jr. (Judy), David Leonard (Carolyn), and Paul “P. J.” Leonard (Madeline), Pervis Leonard, Russell Leonard (Linda), Linda Mallett and Dorothy Corbello (Paul); sister, Ella Hebert; 33 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren and 32 great-great grandchildren. Teeya is preceded in death by her husband; daughters, Myrtis Brittner, Nona Romero; granddaughter, Sabrina Corbello, grandson, Corrie Leonard and great-grandson, Currey Leonard. A Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, June 29, 2015 at 11 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist with Father Emmanuel Tanu officiating. Burial will follow in Lacassine Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home. Visitation is Sunday in the funeral home from 3 p.m. – 10 p.m., with a rosary at 5 p.m. Following the rosary, a Celebration of Life will be held. Visitation will resume Monday from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
