Nelson Joseph Trahan

Hayes-Nelson Joseph Trahan, 77, passed away in his residence surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, August 30, 2014. Nelson was born to Steve & Fannie (Broussard) Trahan in the Illinois plant in Hayes. He attended school in Hayes and Bell City. Nelson served four years in the United States Navy and two years in the reserve. He married Ruth Ann (Fontenot) in August of 1963. He worked most of his life in the oilfield industry. He was a member of First Baptist Hayes and loved to attend church and Sunday school. Many of the repairs done for the church were done by Nelson. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Welsh. He did a lot of work in Hayes Cemetery as long as his health allowed him. Nelson leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Ruth Ann; daughter, Jackie Holmes and husband, Chris of Hayes; two grandsons, Scot Trahan of Lake Arthur (who served in the U.S. Marines) and Donovan Holmes of Hayes; four sisters, Wanda Bouley of Gueydan, Virginia Trahan of Lake Charles, Judy Lobbe of Kaplan and Louella Stripling of Pearland, TX; two brothers, Roger Trahan of Hayes and Kenneth (Boo Boo) Trahan of Estherwood, LA; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces & nephews, a host of friends and his church family. He is preceded in death by his parents; in-laws; a son, Scott Nelson Trahan; two brothers, Jimmy & Richard Trahan and one sister, Merle LeBlanc.
