Lake Charles –Robert “Bobby” Wayne Ryder, Sr., born on October 29, 1935, son of the late Willie and Irene (Bushnell) Ryder, passed away on February 11, 2021, at the age of 85. Bobby was a graduate of Marion High School, where he excelled in sports. He was a heavy quipment operator with Local 406 of Lake Charles and Local 3, which was out of California. Bobby enjoyed woodworking, tending to his garden, watching Westerns and sports, but most of all, spending time with his grandchildren brought him so much joy. He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Danita Andrus. Bobby is survived by his wife of 49 years, Hazel Dougay Ryder; children, Dennis Ryder (Cathy) of Belville, WA; Keith Ryder of Ponchatoula, LA; Mike Ryder (Claudia) of Houma; Robert “Rob” W. Ryder, Jr. (Anna) of Ramstein, Germany; Bryan Thomas (Lynn) of Grandlake, LA; Jill Thomas Holsclaw (Kurt) of Lawrence, KS; grandchildren, Heather Heaton (Brent); Andrew “Drew” Ryder; Austin Ryder; Chloe Ryder Prosperie; Griffin Ryder; Nicola Ryder; Robby Ryder; Shelby Monceaux (Ryan); Lance Thomas; Ally Thomas; Luke Thomas; Emma Thomas; Emma Holsclaw and Ian Holsclaw; 7 great-grandchildren, with 1 on the way. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021 in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa at 10 am. Rev. Jerod Grissom will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will begin on Friday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and resume Saturday from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. All attendees to both the visitation and service are asked to wear facial coverings.
