Iowa – Shirley Lee Barzar, 78, passed away in a local care facility Monday, December 14, 2015. Shirley was born on September 3, 1937 in Ville Platte to the late Andison and Laura Thompson Berzas. He attended Nicholls State University and retired from Tidewater Marine and was a shuttle bus driver for Coushatta. He was a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner for a short period. Shirley served in the U.S. Airforce. He enjoyed wood carving and burning. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Gwendolyn of Iowa; daughters, Hilda Ann Barzar and Rhonda Lee Barzar; son, Charles Ray Barzar, Sr. and fiancé, Christina Reid; siblings, Larry Berzas (Chita) and Ellavon Laird; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Etheline Pitre and his pet, Zachary. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church ~ Iowa. Burial will follow at Pinehill Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home. Visitation begins Wednesday at Johnson & Brown from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. and will resume Thursday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
